Welcome to Arkansas State University!

April 2022

The PROPS program includes a monthly profile of an A-State staff member that works every day behind the scenes to improve Arkansas State University… because EVERY Red Wolf Counts!

Staff members are selected from a pool of candidates that is created from the PROPS nomination form

Stephanie was nominated by LaVonda Evans for her helpful disposition as an Administrative Specialist II in the Physical Therapy department. LaVonda says “her caring demeanor both on-and off-campus proves that she is an asset to A-State and highly recommended for PROPS recognition.” Stephanie was born in Osceola and raised in Dyes (the location of Johnny Cash’s boyhood home) and has a son who is in his second semester at A-State.

PROPS Subcommittee members Madelyn Carson, LaVonda Evans, and Cathy Naylor met with Stephanie to discuss her contributions to A-State and get to know her better.

My favorite vacation spot is...

My favorite vacation spot now is Hot Springs and Devil’s Den State Park in Arkansas, which has camping, hiking and canoes. I hope to one day go to Ireland.

Before retiring, what would you like to do?

I’d like to save up enough money to travel. I’m sure I’ll come up with something else before I retire.

What I like about A-State is…

I really like the people, my fellow staff, the faculty, the students, and the sense of community. I have an under graduate and graduate degree from A-State. Enjoy being on this campus with the sense of belonging and friendships I’ve developed.

My hobby is...

I love writing and recently picked up painting. I enjoy canvas and wood painting.

In school, I was most known for…

In elementary and high school I was really quiet student. Studious and book smart. At A-State, I was known for my laugh, making people laugh with my laugh.

What music is playing in your car?

My Pandora and streaming is very eclectic from country to hard rock to hip hop to orchestra and it changes depending on the mood.

The best advice I ever received was...

Just be yourself, let your own personality shine through. Don’t try to be someone you’re not or conform to what people want you to be. Stay true to yourself. They will like you better and be more understanding.

What is your most recent binge show?

Emily in Paris on Nexflix. It’s got fashion, romance, and humor.

What is one thing you wish you could teach everyone about your role on campus?

I guess that there is a lot more to it than meets the eye. Before this position, I didn’t realize how much went into becoming an admin and everything that admins do. Building communication skills between everyone is something I’d want to teach.
