Synchronous Tutoring

WHAT IS SYNCHRONOUS TUTORING (Online Appointments)?

Synchronous tutoring takes place when both the tutor and student are simultaneously engaged in an online, real-time chat.  

HOW DOES IT WORK?

For an Online appointment, the student will schedule a time to video chat with one of our tutors.

Appointments are scheduled in hour blocks, but sessions last a maximum of 45 minutes. This gives tutors time to prepare feedback and send client report forms in a timely manner.

HOW DO I SCHEDULE IT?

• Students must register for an account with the Online Writing Center.
• Log in to the Tutoring Portal.
• Select an open time (white box) and select “Yes. Schedule an Online  appointment
• Attach all relevant files to appointment form (paper, rubric, assignment sheet, etc)
• Students must schedule their appointments 24 hours in advance.

WHEN WILL I GET MY FEEDBACK?

Students should log into the portal at their scheduled time to start their session. Students will receive their feedback during the tutoring session, as well as a follow-up Client Report Form.

HOW DO I ACCESS MY CLIENT REPORT FORM?

There are two ways.

• 1. Log into the portal and select your appointment. Your paper, with the tutors’ notes, will be attached to a Client Report Form.
• 2. Your Client Report Form can be emailed directly to you.

WHAT ARE THE TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS?

Online Appointments work best with the help of high-speed internet, a computer with video and audio capabilities, and the use of headphones.
