- About A-State
Marking its first hundred years, Arkansas State University continues to expand in exciting ways.
SAITAMA UNIVERSITY
Saitama University (SU), located in Saitama, Japan, which is just north of Tokyo, is one of the most popular residential areas in East Japan. Since its establishment in 1949, Saitama University is a university that specializes in several degree programs in the Liberal Arts, Education, Economics, Science, and Engineering fields, and is official accredited by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in Japan. Saitama is the perfect location as you can still access many major attractions, such as the metropolitan Tokyo area and the popular tourist attractions of Mt. Fuji, Nikko, Tomioka Silk Mill, and many others! Saitama University is a popular area for even international students (those who are not Japanese citizens) to learn as there are over 600 international students attending Saitama University!
WHAT IS A DOUBLE DEGREE?
The Cooperative Programs are to be set with a model of 2+2 which is carried out by curriculum articulation and credit transfer between ASUJ and SU. A 2+2 Bachelor’s degree will require two years of study at both Arkansas State University (Jonesboro) and Saitama University. This shall be accomplished by requiring that the first two years of study occur at ASUJ and SU, and the last two calendar years of study shall occur at whichever of ASUJ or SU the first two years of study did not take place. The timing and duration that the study takes place are, however, subjects to be modified based on the progress of participants and/or mutual demands.
REQUIREMENTS/DEGREES OFFERED
Students who are going to participate in this program shall be undergraduate students registered at ASUJ majoring in Interdisciplinary studies or SU majoring in Liberal Arts. Students will need to enroll and complete pre-approved courses with satisfactory grades to be admitted to the Cooperative Program. Any courses taken outside of the preapproved list may be counted to qualify for admittance to the Cooperative Program. Students must have a TOEFL IBT score of 61 or an IELTS score of 5.5 to be eligible for the ASUJ degree courses. Any student who has failed to meet this requirement must enter and complete the A-State English as a Second Language program before they start the degree course.
The specialties are Interdisciplinary Studies from ASUJ and Liberal Arts from SU.
