Welcome to Arkansas State University!

International Insurance, Health and Safety

The Student Health Center

Health Immunizations

All students are required to have two Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) shots along with a T-spot (Tuberculosis) test when they arrive to campus by state law. These are given to students during their orientation week. If you have already taken your MMR shots, please send an email to international@astate.edu before arrival.

Health Insurance

International students are required by the U.S. government to have health insurance.  Good health is the foundation for having academic success. Having insurance helps to make sure you are prepared for the cost of medical care should you need it, especially in the event of an unexpected medical emergency.

We offer resources such as workshops and ‘how to’ manuals to help students understand the importance and role of private medical insurance in the United States.  For insurance tutorials, .PDF guides and FAQ's, please click the tab on the left or click here.

Health Services

The Student Health Center is the campus health care clinic and is open to all current A-State students. Their operating hours are from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., and they can provide an array of services. For more information about the Student Health Center, visit http://www.astate.edu/a/student-health-center/

There are two full service hospitals in the community (NEA Baptist Hospital and St. Bernard’s Hospital) along with several clinics in town.

In addition to providing health care, Arkansas State University also provides counseling services to students. For more information about Counseling and Consultation Services, visit http://www.astate.edu/a/counseling-services/

Safety Resources

The city of Jonesboro and the Arkansas State University campus community are committed to safety. Although campus and the city of Jonesboro are quite safe, A-State still wants to ensure that students have access to a number of resources to further protect students on and around campus. These resources include:

University Police provides a variety of services to ensure your safety and prevent crime on campus. UPD is avaible 24 hours a day / 365 days a year at 870-972-2093.

QuikTip is a secure two way communication component that allows the public to provide tips and information to University Police Department. Free download available for android and IPhone users.

Emergency Alert System

Arkansas State University provides an Emergency Notification Service for faculty, staff, students, and other members of the university community. All faculty, staff, and students are automatically enrolled and have the opportunity to opt-out using the myCampus portal.

Emergency phones are located all across campus. Many of them can be identified by the soft glow blue light that is housed above the phone. When the phone is activated, these lights will strobe. There are some emergency phones located inside some of the residential facilities that are wall mounted and do not have blue lights. Also every elevator on campus has an emergency phone inside the cab of the elevator. These phones may be used for any type of emergency as well as to request the service of the University Police Department, such as to request an escort or a vehicle boost.

Our department will provide a safety escort for you 24 hrs a day. Anytime you feel unsafe walking through campus, give us a call and we will walk with you. Both starting and ending locations must remain on campus. Also prepare for the weather as we will walk with you.

Vehicle Unlocks & Jump Starts

If you have locked your keys in your car or have a dead car battery, you can contact us for assistance. You must be parked on campus, be the owner of the vehicle, and have a valid driver's license.

For a fee of $5.00, we will fingerprint you for your employment or background checks. You must provide your own fingerprint card.

You can contact us to bring an engraver to you or you can stop by our main office to have you items of value engraved with your student i.d. number.

Possession Registration

Our office provides online forms that allow users to register information about their personal belongings on campus. Having this information on file greatly increases the chances that these devices can be recovered if stolen.
