State Teacher Assistance Resource (STAR ) Program

The State Teacher Assistance Resource (STAR) Program is designed to provide scholarships to students who are pursuing a course of study leading to teacher licensure in designated subject and/or geographic critical shortage areas in the Sate of Arkansas. The recipient may receive the scholarship up to two (2) years if in a four-year teacher education program or up to three (3) years if in a five-year teacher education program. The recipient must teach in an Arkansas public school one year for each year of scholarship assistance received. No student may participate in more than one (1) forgivable loan program supported with state money. Additionally, no student may participate in both the scholarship and loan repayment programs. Recipients who agree to teach in a public school located in a geographic area of the state designated as having a critical shortage of teachers may teach any subject on the Approved Educator Preparation Programs list.
