    The university community today is remembering the life of Dr. Eugene W. Smith, our eighth president, who died Sunday after a lengthy illness. Over his eight-year presidency, Smith led A-State through one of its greatest eras of growth and development.

    The Windgate Foundation has approved A-State's proposal for a $6.7 million grant to build a new facility for sculpture and ceramics programs. The gift is the largest single gift to the arts in the 109-year history of Arkansas State University.
