Welcome to Arkansas State University!
+ Campus alert: A-State Closed Jan. 16

A-State Closed on Jan. 16 due to winter precipitation.

Arkansas State University is closed today, Tuesday, Jan. 16, due to winter precipitation. All winter response staff members are requested to report to their duty stations.

Overnight, snow fall made conditions for students, faculty and staff hazardous.

"Our administrative team determined the snowfall was going to be heavier than forecast and while today was scheduled to be the first day of class for the spring 2018 semester, I've decided it is best that we cancel classes for today," Chancellor Kelly Damphousse said.

All classes at the Jonesboro and Paragould locations are cancelled. Online classes continue.

While offices and classes are closed, university residential life areas continue to operate to support the on-campus student population.

For students living on-campus, Acansa Dining Hall will operate under "brunch hours" with service from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and then 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Professional Education Programs

Director's Welcome

Welcome to the web page of the Professional Education Programs. I would like to encourage you to explore the services available through this office. As Director of Professional Education Programs, I am responsible for the coordination of the field experience. The unit is also designed to assist students from the time of admission to completion of teacher licensure. The monitoring and/or coordination of admission into the teacher education program, field experiences, licensure, and partnerships are major responsibilities of this office. For pertinent dates and forms, you may view a Professional Education Programs calendar and forms related to admission, teacher education retention checkpoints, and field experiences/internship. Five scholarships for teacher education majors are coordinated by the unit and two scholarships require the signature of the professional licensure officer (teacher certifying official).

Arkansas State University is committed to the preparation of teachers who have the knowledge and skills necessary to meet the learning needs of youth in our culturally diverse American schools. All students who are committed to pursuing a career in teaching and who meet the teacher education program standards are welcome.

The Professional Education Programs office has two calendars to assist with important dates of activities, meetings, and submission deadlines. The Teaching Internship Calendar lists dates and times of all mandatory meetings, dates for reporting to the public school, and dates for changing from first 8-week placement to second 8-week placement. The Professional Education Programs Calendar will denote dates and times of all activities coordinated by the office.

Two handbooks are available for students enrolled in teacher education programs. The Teacher Education Handbook is designed to provide information to teacher education students about policies and practices from admission to licensure. The Teacher Intern Handbook provides information to interns about policies and practices during the internship.
