UPDATED: Responding to the Approaching Winter Storm

02/02/2022

Update for Friday, Feb. 4

Arkansas State University is canceling all on-campus classes and closing all academic and business offices for Friday, Feb. 4. Campus and the Jonesboro area received over an inch of sleet on Thursday, and while crews continue to work on removal of ice and sleet on sidewalks and roads, sub-freezing temperatures, continuing sleet and overcast skies leave many areas still covered.

All should plan for on-campus classes to resume on schedule and academic and business offices to reopen on Monday, Feb. 7.

Campus dining services will continue to operate on brunch hours at Acansa Dining Hall for Friday, Feb. 4, and the Reng Student Union will be open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. There will be limited retail dining areas open Friday in the union, and there will be no on-campus delivery due to icy conditions.

The Red W.O.L.F. Center and Dean B. Ellis Library will be closed on Friday. Library staff reminds everyone that the online resources are available 24/7. Both may reopen with limited hours on Saturday if conditions improve. Check the web pages for each for weekend updates.

For A-State Online students and instructors, classes continue on as usual. Due to the widespread impact of this winter system, the AOS team is asking instructors to consider giving students extra time to complete their online coursework.

JONESBORO -- Arkansas State University is canceling all on-campus classes and closing all academic and business offices for Thursday, Feb. 3, in response to the approaching winter storm.  The campus leadership team will assess the storm impact on Thursday morning and make a further decision related to Friday, Feb. 4, by midday Thursday.

As a reminder to the campus community, while on-campus classes are canceled and regular business offices are not open, the campus rarely “closes.” Essential personnel who maintain on-campus activities, including University Housing and Facilities Management, will report to work.  Employees who are uncertain about their status as “essential personnel” are encouraged to check with their supervisor.

Campus dining services will operate on brunch hours at Acansa Dining Hall for Thursday, and the Reng Student Union will be open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.  At this time, the Red Wolves Men’s Basketball game scheduled for First National Bank Arena will be played as scheduled on Thursday at 7 p.m. The Red W.O.L.F. Center and Dean B. Ellis Library will be closed on Thursday. Library staff reminds everyone that the online resources are available 24/7.

For A-State Online students and instructors, classes continue on as usual.  However, this is a major winter storm that will roll across the nation, so students far removed from Jonesboro may not see impacts until Friday or Saturday.  The AOS team is asking instructors to consider giving students extra time to complete their online coursework.

Students and employees should check the A-State official website, A-State-issued email addresses, our official main social media, and our official student app for updates on conditions.
