Campus Activities Continue Today

Campus activities will continue today, including Dean B. Ellis Library opening at noon, women's basketball this afternoon at 2 p.m. and the Delta Symphony Concert at Fowler Center.

With up to a 1/4 inch of ice on trees around campus, please use caution as the ice begins to fall from trees and elevated surfaces. Many tree limbs have fallen, and during today, more will fall with the ice load in the wind.

While the icy landscape looks pretty, please stay away from low hanging branches and watch out for persistent icy patches on the ground.

Summer Children’s Theatre Season Opens June 25


JONESBORO – The Summer Children’s Theatre season gets underway Wednesday at Arkansas State University’s Fowler Center.

The 21st season of children’s theatre will open with “The Reluctant Dragon” by Kenneth Grahame.  In this story, a child becomes fast friends with a kind and funny dragon on the edge of town. The people of the town find out about the dragon and send for St. George, a dragon slayer, but all three become friends and find themselves in a quandary. 

Performance dates are Wednesday, June 25, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.; Thursday, June 26, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.; and Friday, June 27, at 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.  This production of “The Reluctant Dragon” is sponsored by the ASU Theatre Guild.

A-State theatre students who are in the cast include Ali Hoffman of Marmaduke, Sarah Ring of Cabot, Jeremy Smith of Dumas, Morgan Carvell of Bentonville, and Dru Ergle, Luke Guntharp, Betsy Hegger and  Brooke Thomas, all of Jonesboro.

“The Reluctant Dragon” is under the direction of Jeff McLaughlin, assistant professor of theatre.  Costume and makeup supervision will be by Claire Abernathy, assistant professor of theatre, and technical direction will be under the supervision of Bob Simpson, professor of theatre.

The second production of the 2014 season will be “The Three Bully Goats Griff” by Patrick Rainville Dorn.   Performance dates are Wednesday, July 30, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.; Thursday, July 31, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.; and Friday, Aug. 1, at 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.  This production of “The Three Bully Goats Griff” is sponsored by The Golden Grotto.

All seating is reserved.  Tickets should be purchased in advance at the A-State Central Box Office in the Convocation Center for $5, by calling (870) 972-ASU1, or online at tickets.astate.edu.   Tickets also may be purchased at the door (if available) on the day of the performance for $7 each.  Reservations are highly recommended.
