Social Work Students Earn Scholarships

02/27/2015

JONESBORO – Two students who are completing the Addictions Studies Certificate along with the Master of Social Work (MSW) degree recently were awarded scholarships in the College of Nursing and Health Professions at Arkansas State University.

Brittany Price of North Little Rock received the Ryan Family Scholarship for Addiction Studies. This scholarship is intended to recognize and honor the capacity of individuals to respond positively in the face of adversity and to offer assistance and support to others who may be faced with similar challenges.

April Towell of Paragould received the Huddleston Social Work Student Scholarship which is named for Bill Huddleston, who dedicated his career to serving individuals with mental illness and addictive disorders. He was a developer and administrator of a wide array of community services in rural Arkansas for many years, believing that everyone needed and deserved access to health and social services.

This scholarship is awarded in recognition of his contributions and legacy. Towell and her husband, Curtis, have four children.

Individuals interested in the Addictions Studies Graduate Certificate program are invited to contact Connie Ryan, addictions studies coordinator, Department of Social Work, at cryan@astate.edu or (870) 972-8567.
