Rosanne Cash to Host Sunken Lands Songwriting Circle with Trisha Yearwood, Accompanied by John Leventhal
JONESBORO – The Historic Dyess Colony: Johnny Cash Boyhood Home has announced the line-up for the 2025 Sunken Lands Songwriting Circle. Rosanne Cash will host the event and will be joined by Trisha Yearwood, with accompaniment by John Leventhal.
The event will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 12, in Riceland Hall of Fowler Center on the campus of Arkansas State University.
“I’m thrilled to be joined at the third annual Sunken Lands Songwriters Circle by one of the greatest voices in country music — Trisha Yearwood. Trisha will be performing some of her own songs, which is a rare privilege for us. John Leventhal will be with us, as always,” said Rosanne Cash.
Yearwood is a Grammy, Country Music Association, and Academy of Country Music award-winning country music icon with a career spanning over three decades. She is known for her vocals and multiple hits, having sold over 15 million records and recording 15 studio albums. She will release “The Mirror,” her first album co-writing every song, on July 18.
"I’m so excited to be part of this year’s Sunken Lands Songwriting Circle. Sharing the stage with my friend Rosanne, honoring Johnny Cash’s legacy, and supporting such a meaningful place is really special. I'm looking forward to playing some of my new songs and sharing stories in a setting that means so much to country music,” Yearwood said.
This event expands Johnny Cash’s musical legacy by recognizing world-class songwriters and performers. Each year, the Songwriting Circle invites artists to share the stage for an evening of music and storytelling. Proceeds benefit ongoing preservation and operation of the site.
The Historic Dyess Colony: Johnny Cash Boyhood Home preserves the 1935 home of the Cash family in Dyess, Arkansas, listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2018. It celebrates Johnny Cash’s life and music. Restoration of the New Deal-era home was made possible through a series of music festival benefits held at A-State beginning in 2011.
In 2017, the festival was relocated to the grounds of the Boyhood Home in Dyess and expanded beyond music to include programs about the New Deal heritage that is part of the Dyess and Cash family stories. The extended Cash family has been dedicated to the restoration and instrumental in the planning and performing in the festivals from the inception of the project.
Performers have included Rosanne Cash, John Carter Cash, George Jones, Kris Kristofferson, Rodney Crowell, Dierks Bentley, Willie Nelson, Vince Gill, The Gatlin Brothers, Loretta Lynn, Reba McEntire, Jamey Johnson, Alison Krauss, Marty Stuart, various members of the Cash family, and more.
The Sunken Lands Songwriting Circle is the highlight of an annual series of cultural events, including exhibitions, performances, lectures, workshops, and special events presented by the Arkansas State University Heritage Sites program.
A pre-sale for Boyhood Home Museum members will start on Tuesday, July 1. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Tuesday, July 8.
