Local Business Owners Endow Scholarships to A-State

01/21/2015

JONESBORO — Jeff and Lisa Simmons, longtime supporters of Arkansas State University and owners of a couple of local businesses, have endowed two scholarships to the College of Business and the College of Fine Arts.

The two scholarships, known as the Simmons Family Scholarship and the Simmons Family Endowed Scholarship, combine to total $30,000 that will provide an annual award based on endowment earnings each year. It will rotate annually between the accounting department and the choral music section headed by Dr. Dale Miller. Upon the retirement of Miller from Arkansas State, the scholarship is designated entirely for the accounting department.

Jeff and Lisa own Crown Trophy, a local store specializing in promotional products, specialty items, trophies, plaques, medals and other awards. Crown Trophy is also licensed by the Collegiate Licensing Company to sell A-State products.

Criteria for the College of Business Accounting scholarship include being a fulltime student in good standing, a junior or senior level student, must have a grade point average of 2.5 or better and must be an accounting major in the College of Business.

For the Fine Arts Choral scholarship, a recipient must adhere to the same criteria. In addition, the award goes to a non-music major who performs in the chamber choir or in any chorus for Arkansas State.
