KASU Radio Names Robinson to News Reporter Position

01/31/2024

JONESBORO – KASU, the public media service of Arkansas State University, has appointed Rebecca Robinson as staff reporter, announced Mark Smith, station manager. Robinson will be filling a position left vacant in April 2023 when Brandon Tabor was promoted to news director for the station.

The position has been reconfigured to align with the goals of the KASU news department. Tabor will continue to host Morning Edition, providing local news content in the nationally syndicated program from National Public Radio (NPR). Robinson will focus on local news gathering and reporting, and she will be a backup host for Morning Edition.

“I believe Rebecca will be a valuable asset to our news team,” Smith said. “I know that KASU’s local and regional news coverage will greatly benefit from her skills and her enthusiasm, and I look forward to seeing what she will accomplish here.”

A 2019 graduate of Sheridan High School, Robinson graduated from A-State with a degree in multimedia journalism in December. In January 2021, while working toward her degree, she was named sports editor for The Herald, A-State’s student-run newspaper.

She received three first place awards from the Arkansas Collegiate Media Association for her sports reporting. A year later, she became Herald editor-in-chief. In the fall semester of 2023, Robinson interned at The Jonesboro Sun.

“I’m excited to be a part of the KASU team. It’s a great opportunity to use my passion for journalism daily,” Robinson said. “I look forward to helping cover local politics and other news of community interest in my role at the station. I think this region of Arkansas has much to offer and a wealth of fascinating stories to tell.”

In her spare time, Robinson enjoys attending concerts and scouring thrift stores for records, CDs, cassettes, and vintage music magazines.

KASU is a National Public Radio (NPR) member station licensed to Arkansas State University. The 100,000-watt station can be heard on 91.9 FM, and streaming live at kasu.org or on the KASU mobile app.
