Friends of Music to Sponsor Howl-O-Ween Friendzy

10/15/2015

JONESBORO – The "Howl-O-Ween Friendzy," the first fundraiser for the new Friends of Music organization at Arkansas State University, will be a fun musical show appropriate for all ages.

The evening will include musical performances by faculty and students, contests with prizes, a raffle, and loads of fun.  Proceeds will go toward music scholarships.  It will be Friday, Oct. 30, at 7:30 p.m. in Fowler Center’s Riceland Hall.  For those not participating in contests, tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for A-State students; children 12 and under are admitted free.

The obvious theme is Halloween, A-State Department of Music style, with Howl as the special guest, along with faculty, some students and a few retirees coming back to haunt participants with spooky music.  Of course, Howl will steal the show in judging his Howling Contest, apart from many other prize-winning activities.  An anonymous donor also has agreed to give $3,000 if at least $3,000 is raised at this event.

"A-State music students are deserving of more support and Friends of Music is designed to assist.  This group is essentially a booster club comprised of dedicated music lovers," stated Dr. Marika Kyriakos, department chair.  "All efforts are for A-State music students' benefit.  Friends of Music will not only serve to raise funds for scholarships and other student needs, but also increase public awareness of music events.

For those who wish to participate in contests, the entry fee is a flat $10 (regardless of number of contests entered) and admission to the Friendzy is free.  More than one contest can be entered; options include ghost dancing, costume, pumpkin carving, a howling, a raffle, and artwork contests.  The artwork contest has a deadline of Monday, Oct. 26.  Those who participate in the artwork contest will receive a comp ticket.

"The commitment of this organization somewhat reflects the A-State mission to educate leaders, enhance intellectual growth and enrich lives," she added. "Friends of Music will educate the community, enhance the experience of music students on our campus, and enrich the lives of those who come to know music at A-State."

Tickets may be purchased at the door or at the Central Box Office.  To order by phone, one may call (870) 972-2781.  For the artwork contest fee of $10, checks can be made to ASU Foundation with “music” in the memo.  Checks may be delivered to the Music Office, room 201, Fine Arts Center, or can be mailed to: Arkansas State University, Department of Music, P. O. Box 779, State University, AR 72467.
