Family Fun Day at Arkansas State University’s Pond set for Saturday
JONESBORO – Family Fun Day at Arkansas State University’s pond is set for 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Saturday, May 18.
The day of fun for all ages will include fishing and other activities, such as archery, canoeing, fish cleaning and cooking demonstrations, bounce houses for the children, and free health and wellness screenings. A lunch will be provided.
“All of this is free and open to the public. This is the second straight year A-State has worked with the Arkansas Game and Fish to provide this opportunity for the community in Northeast Arkansas,” stated Dr. Lonnie Williams, vice chancellor for diversity, inclusion and community engagement.
The pond will be freshly stocked with fish in advance to make sure there is something even for the beginner fisher to catch, according to Maurice Jackson, family and community fishing program coordinator for Arkansas Game and Fish.
Williams added, “The event held last year was a great success. We are thrilled the Arkansas Game and Fish wanted to bring this event to our area like they do so in other areas of the state.”
The A-State pond is located at 2605 A St., adjacent to the Pavilion and just west of Centennial Bank Stadium on the university campus.
One may register for the event at register-ed.com/events/view/208948. Registration is not required, but it help with preparing for a food count and prizes through the Arkansas Game and Fish. Children ages 16 or older will need a valid AGFC fishing license.
In addition to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and A-State, Family Fun Day is sponsored by Arkansas Hunters Feeding the Hungry, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Foundation, Arkansas State Parks, A to Z Landscaping, Tyre Lodge #10, and Ambetter of Arkansas.
