Book Club to Discuss Michelle Obama Book "Becoming"

02/27/2019

JONESBORO – In honor of Women’s History Month, Arkansas State University’s book club will hold an open discussion about Becoming, the best-selling book by former First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama.

The event is Monday, March 11, at 5:30 p.m. in the White River Room in the Carl R. Reng Student Union. The meeting is free and open to the public.

Becoming is a revealing memoir that has sparked dialogue across the nation. Obama has described the autobiography as a deeply personal experience that explores her roots as well as her time in the White House. The book also delves into her health projects as the First Lady and her role as a mother of two daughters.

The inspirational book was published in November 2018 by Crown Publishing Group.

Refreshments and door prizes will be available during the book club session. Attendees are invited to share reactions to the Obama book.

The A-State book club is sponsored by the Arkansas State Association of Black Journalists, the Multicultural Center, the Delta Studies Center and the Women and Gender Studies program.

Women’s History Month is celebrated each March and highlights the contributions of women to historical events and contemporary society. Although it began as Women’s History Week in 1980, each U.S. president since 1988 has issued a proclamation designating the month of March as Women’s History Month.
