01/31/2012

Arkansas State University announces the appointment of Adam Long as associate director and facilities manager of the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center in Piggott.  He replaces Diana Sanders, who retired Jan. 13, 2012.

Long is a 2002 graduate of Jonesboro High School.  He received a bachelor of arts degree in English in 2006 from Lyon College and a master of arts in American Literature in 2008 from the University of Arkansas.  He expects to receive a Ph.D. in American Literature in May 2012 from the University of Kansas.

“We could not be more pleased with Adam’s appointment,” commented Dr. Ruth Hawkins, director of ASU’s Arkansas Heritage Sites Program.  “Diana Sanders has been responsible for developing our Piggott site into the major attraction that it is today, and under Adam’s leadership, we will see additional growth in regional and national prestige.”

Long will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the facilities, exhibits and special events at the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center, as well as expanding the educational programming for youth and adults.

He has served as an adjunct instructor at Lyon College and as a teaching assistant at the University of Arkansas and the University of Kansas.   Long also has published in the International Journal of the Humanities and Philological Review, and has a forthcoming chapter in the Faulkner-Morrison conference volume being published by the Center for Faulkner Studies at Southeast Missouri State University.

Along with his college teaching experience, he is active in a number of student and professional associations, and he has worked with youth and adults in a variety of informal learning settings.  Long’s administrative background includes managing residential personnel and arranging facility maintenance through the student life department at Lyon College.  He served from 2006 to 2008 on the Lyon College Board of Trustees, working with student affairs, curriculum, and institutional advancement.

Long will begin his responsibilities at the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center on Feb. 6, 2012.
