This degree focused not only on Applied Linguistics but concentrated on the teaching of ESL and EFL. Courses taken were Bilingual Education, Linguistics, Cross-Cultural Perspectives, Methods and Materials in Foreign Language Teaching, Teaching ESL: Methods and Approaches, Psycholinguistics, Sociolinguis- tics, and Contemporary Issues in Immigration.

Conducts curricular review annually and maintains CEA compliance with academic standards. Develops a continual professional development program for teachers. Conducts class observations and maintains class quality assurance. Manages student success and student complaints.

 

Online ESL Instructor, Arkansas State University, Jonesboro, AR - Remote (January 2016 - present) Teaches ESL classes through an e-learning platform. Teaches a variety of levels and has an academic fo- cus on listening, grammar, reading, writing, speaking and pronunciation skills. Additionally has devel- oped a teacher training curriculum for the online program and is slated to instruct the next teacher training class that becomes available.

Academic ESL Instructor, Level Ten, Tres Cantos, Spain (Sept 2007-Dec 2012)

I taught Academic English and General English to several groups of students of a variety of ages and pro- ficiency levels. The courses focused on ESOL exam preparation, and my duties included not only teach- ing the basic skills of English, (reading, writing, speaking and listening) but teaching students to develop metacognitive strategies and cognitive skills they can apply to their exam practice. In addition to exam preparation, I focused on creating contextualized courses based on thematic units which also included a variety of authentic texts. I helped students to develop their writing skills in a second language using a process and genre approach and created a communicative and positive atmosphere through the CLT and task-based teaching methods.

 

Vocational English Instructor, Abaco Center for Tourism Studies, Madrid, Spain (Sept 2009-Oct 2012)

I taught a variety of ESP courses in the tourism industry, including English for Tourism, English for Sec- retaries, and English for Flight Attendants. I instructed adult and immigrant students from up to 20 differ- ent countries and nationalities. Each course was specifically designed to the group of students, their col- lective language proficiency level, and their professional objectives. My duties included conducting a needs analysis, creating contextualized and individualized courses, addressing students of different lan- guage proficiency levels within a group, conducting level testing, as well as course testing and grading, and holding conferences with students.

CTEFL, Via Lingua, Granada, Spain (Feb 2006)

Certification course in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. This four week intensive course consisted of 120 classroom hours and ten one hour supervised teaching hours. This course was composed of five areas including pedagogy theory, language awareness, teaching skills, cultural awareness and life skills.

 

 

CEA Site Reviewer, The Commission of English Language Accreditation, Alexandria, VA (Oct 2014)

Certified as an official CEA Site Reviewer. Completed an on site two day training which pre- pared and certified me to work as a volunteer reviewer. Duties include prior site visit preparation including analyzing institute reports, completing site visit, and writing final report for the com- mission.
