05/03/2024

PIGGOTT – Annmarie Kelly-Harbaugh, of Cleveland, Ohio, has been selected as the writer-in-Residence at the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center (HPMEC), located at 1021 W. Cherry St. in Piggott.

“The residency will allow Kelly-Harbaugh the opportunity to live and work in the community of Piggott for a month, sharing her knowledge and experience with local writers and working on her own writings,” said Shannon Williams, director of HPMEC.

She is the author of “Here Be Dragons: A Parent’s Guide to Rediscovering Purpose, Adventure and the Unfathomable Joy of the Journey.” She is currently working on her next book about the truth that can be found in lies people tell.

She also hosts “Wild Precious Life,” a literary podcast where she talks to others about what inspires them.

Her essays have appeared on NPR’s “All Things Considered,” in “Today Parenting,” “Black Fork,” “Gordon Square Review,” “Anodyne,” and “New York Observer.”

She has received support from the Ohio Arts Council, Rockvale Writers’ Colony and Monasterino della Conoscenza. Kelly-Harbaugh was recently named the 2024 Erma Bombeck and Anna Lefler Humorist-in-Residence in Dayton, Ohio.

Kelly-Harbaugh teaches writing at Ashland University where she also works with incarcerated students trying to obtain their degrees.

In her non-writing moments, Kelly-Harbaugh resides in Cleveland and loves kickboxing, karaoke, dogs, ping-pong, books that make her laugh, movies that make her cry, and salads other people make her eat.

Kelly-Harbaugh will serve as writer-in-residence from Saturday, June 1, through Sunday, June 30. She will also be a mentor at a writers retreat from Monday to Friday, June 17-21.

Registration for the retreat is currently open through the museum.

HPMEC is an Arkansas State University Heritage Site. Tours of the museum are available Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the top of each hour. One may find more information about the museum here.
