Request an IRS Tax Transcript

If you are eligible, save time and log back in to your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and use the IRS Data Retrieval tool instead.

Tax filers can request a transcript, free of charge, of their tax return from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in one of three ways:

Online/Instant Print

Available on the IRS website

  1. Go to: www.irs.gov.
  2. Below "Tools," click "Get Transcript of Your Tax Records"
  3. Click "Get Transcript Online"
  4. Sign into/create account
  5. Under "Get Transcript," select "Higher Education/Student Aid" and request "Return Transcript" filing year.
  6. If not printed instantly, tax filers can expect to receive a paper IRS Tax Return Transcript at the address included in their online request, within 5-10 days from the time the on-line request was successfully transmitted to the IRS. IRS Tax Return Transcripts requested online cannot be sent directly to a third party by the IRS.
  7. Submit the signed tax return transcript to Arkansas State University; make sure to include the student’s name and A-State ID number on the transcript.

  1. Call 1-800-908-9946
  2. Tax filers must follow prompts to enter their social security number and the numbers in their street address. Generally this will be numbers of the street address that was listed on the latest tax return filed. However, if an address change has been completed through the US Postal Service, the IRS may have the updated address on file.
  3. Select “Option 2” to request an IRS Tax Return Transcript and then enter the requested filing year. If successfully validated, tax filers can expect to receive a paper IRS Tax Return Transcript at the address that was used in their telephone request, within 5-10 days from the time the IRS receives the request. IRS Tax Return Transcripts requested by telephone cannot be sent directly to a third party by the IRS.
  4. Submit the signed tax return transcript to A-State make sure to include the student’s name and A-State ID number on the transcript.

  3. Select "Get Transcript By Mail"
  4. Follow the steps online
  5. Select "Return Transcript" and select the appropriate filing year
  6. Tax filers can expect to receive their transcript within 5-10 days from the time the request is submitted.
  7. Submit the signed tax return transcript to Arkansas State University; make sure to include the student’s name and A-State ID number on the transcript.
