Martinez Selected for Catalyze Fellowship

The Mid-America Arts Alliance has selected Dallas Martinez as one of 25 Arkansas artists for a $10,000 practice-based fellowship through its Catalyze program. The award will support his ongoing work exploring Shakespeare in unique regional contexts — blending classical text with the cultural heritage of the Ozarks and Southern storytelling traditions. Martinez is assistant professor of musical direction, artistic producing director and assistant chair, theatre, and director of Fowler Center.

Goodwin Added to NACUBO Principles Council Goodwin Added to NACUBO Principles Council

Myra Goodwin, associate chief financial officer, has been appointed by the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) president to its Accounting Principles Council (APC), which consists of volunteer representatives from NACUBO member institutions. Goodwin joins other accounting and finance professionals who are knowledgeable in financial accounting standards, external financial reporting, managerial accounting and reporting, and financial analysis. NACUBO members represent more than 1,700 higher education institutions.

 
Hansen Presents at Country Music Conference

Dr. Gregory Hansen, professor of folklore and English, completed a presentation on legends and ballads in Nashville at the 41st annual International Country Music Conference (ICMC). He also crafted a previous ICMC presentation into an article, titled "Kenneth Burke Meets the Flop-Eared Mule," that has been published in the new book, Emerging Perspectives in the Study of Folklore and Performance, published by Indiana University Press.

Miller and Bahn Recognized by State Center Miller and Bahn Recognized by State Center

Laura Miller (left), the director of the A-State regional office of the Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center, received the inaugural Legacy of Impact award at the ASBTDC Network Meeting in Little Rock. This new honor recognizes a long-term ASBTDC team member whose dedication and expertise have improved the organization's impact. Robert Bahn (right), a business consultant at the center, was named a Values Champion for demonstrating ASBTDC’s core values. Details are online.

 
Simoes Elected to Trumpet Guild Board

The International Trumpet Guild (ITG) announced that Dr. Nairam Simoes, assistant professor of trumpet, has been elected by the ITG membership to serve on its board of directors. During his four-year term which begins Oct. 1, Simoes will help guide ITG’s strategic direction, support educational and outreach initiatives, and assist in planning future conferences and publications. His election follows his growing profile and commitment to service and innovation in the brass world.
