Dr. Anahita Izadyar, associate professor of chemistry, made an oral presentation for the EuroAnalysis 2023 Congress meeting in Switzerland. The topic was her lab group's work regarding the electrochemical study of nanocomposite materials for biosensor fabrication. Erin Nicholas, Scout Weatherford, Marcela Miranda, My Ni Van, and Nathaniel Lamb were the collaborating students. This conference is one of the most prestigious international analytical chemistry gatherings.

A consortium led by the University of Central Missouri (UCM) Wind Ensemble commissioned Dr. Derek M. Jenkins, associate professor of music theory and composition, to write a piece for wind ensemble commemorating the 50th anniversary of NASA's Skylab. “Gazing Earthward” will be premiered this month at UCM. Also, Jenkins’ composition “Remnants,” commissioned by Dr. Bruce Faske, associate professor of trombone, will be performed at the Society of Composers Region V Conference next month.

Dr. Amany Saleh, professor of curriculum and instruction, is serving on the A. Noam Chomsky Global Connections Awards Committee for 2023-2024. The Global Connections Awards recognize scholars for their achievements and distinctive contributions to transnational research that demonstrates the best of scholarship and/or collaboration among scholars internationally. This fall the committee is awarding scholars from Asia, Africa and the U.S. in public health, economics, engineering and education.

Dr. Jordan Butcher, assistant professor of political science, and one of her former students, Noah Haynes, are authors of a newly published article in Legislative Studies Quarterly. In this article, they outline some of the barriers female legislators typically face, and they explore the mechanisms that can be implemented to help retain women in public service longer. The article is currently open access and is available online.

An article co-authored by Dr. Neal Ternes, assistant professor of sport management, has been published by Extra Points, a college sports newsletter. In the article, Ternes and his co-author discuss the legal challenges facing schools and universities that are looking to regulate athlete NIL (name, image and likeness) deals with companies that promote artificial intelligence software for completing class assignments. The article is available online.
