Unsung Hero Award goes to Petree Buford Unsung Hero Award goes to Petree Buford

The recipient of the Unsung Hero Award is Petree Buford, Facilities Management. As project manager within the planning, construction, and design area, he was recognized by his nominators for his exceptional customer service, his attention to detail, and his ability to manage time-sensitive projects. Buford's years of military service helped prepare him for duties that included helping managing Facilities Management’s response to the winter storm damage. This and other 2023 Distinguished Performance Awards were presented Wednesday.

 
Team Player Award Goes to Suzette Hinkle

Suzette Hinkle, administrative specialist in Occupational Therapy, was presented with the Team Player Award. Over the last three years, Hinkle has taken on more and more responsibilities for her department. She also assists multiple departments within the College of Nursing and Health Professions during times of employee transition, and mentors new administrative assistants. Her nominator emphasized her positive attitude and extraordinary efficiency.

Jarrod Long Receives the STAR Award Jarrod Long Receives the STAR Award

The STAR Award, which recognizes service, teamwork, attitude and reliability, was presented to Capt. Jarrod Long, University Police. Long's nominator noted his outstanding customer service to constituents and the campus community, his prompt responses, and his courteous attitude. Long gives encouragement to associates, often providing guidance and support. He was instrumental in incorporating the systems and functions to create a paperless environment for UPD.

 
Bekah Hickman Enhances Student Experience

Bekah Hickman, assistant director of student engagement, Leadership Center, was recognized with the Enhancing the Student Experience Award. Her nominator emphasized how Hickman has supported her and countless other students with their organization activities and participation in A-State events. She is one of the most energetic volunteers for the pantry, often shopping for food to restock the pantry and working shifts to assist.

Rookie of the Year is Dominique Taylor Rookie of the Year is Dominique Taylor

Dominique Taylor, Division of Diversity, Inclusion and Community Engagement, is recipient of the Rookie of the Year Award. Her nominators commended her work ethic and noticed she is constantly looking for ways to improve herself and the office environment. Taylor strives to handle processes in a timely manner. In her new role, she has connected well with students, staff and campus administrators.

 
KASU Staff Excels in Team Achievement

The staff of KASU, A-State’s public radio service, is winner of the Team Achievement Award. Mark Smith, station manager, accepted the award. Other members of the KASU family recognized were Marty Scarbrough, Brandon Tabor, Rayna Kingston, Doreen Selden, Nathan Taylor, Mike Bradsher, Pam Graham and Johnathan Reaves. In addition to programming such as “Arkansas Roots” and “Rhythm and Grooves,” KASU produces content and concerts that enhance the cultural experience.
