Carpenter Studies Drug-Risk Messaging Issues Carpenter Studies Drug-Risk Messaging Issues

Dr. Amanda Carpenter, assistant professor of occupational therapy, and U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) colleagues have an article in Research in Social and Administrative Pharmacy. Their study examined FDA guidance for pharmaceutical companies to include risk information within character-space-limited (CSL) communications. The article provides a first look at the tradeoffs for consumer understanding of drug risks and benefits when pharmaceutical companies advertise using Internet platforms with CSL communications.

 
Sheppard to Coordinate Nationwide Library Group

April Sheppard, assistant director, Ellis Library, has been elected coordinator of the Social Responsibilities Round Table (SRRT) of the American Library Association (ALA) for 2022-2023. SRRT, the largest round table group within ALA, believes that social responsibility is a core value of librarianship and works to help solve social problems and inequities both within ALA and the profession. Sheppard joined the library staff in 2005.

Hannah Elected to NACUBO Leadership Role Hannah Elected to NACUBO Leadership Role

Dr. Russ Hannah, chief financial officer, was elected vice chair of the board of directors of the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) at the group’s meeting in Washington, D.C. He assumed his duties at the conclusion of NACUBO’s recent annual meeting in Denver.  Hannah will serve as vice chair for a year, then will become chair of the NACUBO board next July.

 
Wellborn Brings Social Work Skill to A-State

A-State welcomes a new assistant professor of social work, Rebbecca Wellborn. She previously worked in the field as a licensed clinical social worker for the past 18 years, and she also is a licensed teacher, having taught in an area high school for five years. An A-State alumna and master’s graduate from UALR, Wellborn also has certifications in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) and grief recovery.

Kana is New Member of Music Faculty Kana is New Member of Music Faculty

Another new faculty member is Dr. Elissa Kana, instructor in music, who is teaching saxophone students. Before completing her Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) degree at the University of Iowa, she taught at the University of Northern Iowa and at the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Michigan. A member of the award-winning Colere Quartet, Kana’s research interests include saxophone performance and pedagogy.
