Fleming Gets Supercomputing Access

Dr. Robert (Drew) Fleming, assistant professor of mechanical engineering, received a start-up allocation of computing time on Bridges-2 at the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center (PSC), part of the NSF-funded XSEDE (Extreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment) program. The allocation, based on Fleming’s proposal to study material defects in nanomaterials, includes time and resources for code validation, scaling analysis, and results to support a larger-scale research allocation after the start-up period.

Barnhouse’s Research Published in Journal Barnhouse’s Research Published in Journal

Dr. Lucy C. Barnhouse, assistant professor of history, contributed to the relaunch issue of Medieval People. Her solicited article, " 'A Certain Poor Woman': Vulnerability and Visibility among Hospital Donors and Tenants," examines the multifaceted relationships of the poor with medieval hospitals. Her work appears alongside that of leading medieval social historians. Barnhouse also presented on this project in May at the International Congress on Medieval Studies.

 
Hossain Co-Authors Chapter and Journal Article

Dr. Niamat Hossain, assistant professor of engineering management, is co-author of a chapter in Springer’s Handbook of Smart Energy Systems. The article, on modeling and assessing resilience of smart grid systems, is online. Hossain also is co-author of an article for Emerald Publishing in which he and his associates present their development of a decision support model for selection of an unmanned aerial vehicle to deliver medical supplies.

Glasco Selected NIGP Manager of Year Glasco Selected NIGP Manager of Year

Lisa Glasco, director, Procurement Services, has been named 2022 Manager of the Year by the Arkansas Chapter of NIGP (ARNIGP), a not-for-profit institute for public procurement professionals. The Manager of the Year Award recognizes professionals who have made significant contributions to procurement, the organization where the individual is employed, their chapter and NIGP. Glasco has worked in Procurement Services since August 2000.

 
Rich Recognized for Career Achievement

Congratulations to Dr. Jerica J. J. Rich, assistant professor of animal science, on her recent recognition by the New England Educational Opportunity Association. Rich was presented with the group’s 2022 Rising Star Award, which is given annually to a former participant of New England’s educational opportunity programs who is an emerging professional beginning to make an impact in their career and their community.
