Aryal’s Short Story and Article are Published

Two works by Dr. Khem K. Aryal, assistant professor of English, have been published. His short story, "Laxman Sir in America," was published in Valley Voices. His article, "Retooling Workshops of Empire: Globalizing Creative Writing with an Edge," was published in the international journal New Writing.  In July, Aryal was a writer-in-residence at the Writers' Colony at Dairy Hollow, and he gave a reading at the Carnegie Public Library, both in Eureka Springs.

Hill and Hayes Present Paper at Conference Hill and Hayes Present Paper at Conference

Dr. Myleea Hill (left), professor of strategic communication and department graduate program coordinator, and Dr. Marceline Hayes (right), professor of communication studies and department chair, presented a paper co-authored with graduate communication students at the Western Social Sciences Association virtual conference. “#EatItToBeatIt and the Commitment-Communication Model: A Qualitative Analysis of the Prostate Cancer Foundation’s Risk Reduction Campaign,” was co-authored with Wendeth Rauf and Guy Riggins, MA students in communication studies.

 
Damphousse Gives Commencement Address

Congratulations to Chancellor Kelly Damphousse, who was invited to provide the summer commencement address Saturday for morning and afternoon ceremonies at his alma mater, Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. A 1987 graduate, Damphousse shared some memories about his SHSU days, and he emphasized the importance of hope, gratitude and humility. He was accompanied by his wife, Beth, whom he met at SHSU, and daughter Kayleigh.

Goodwin to Chair SACUBO Audit Committee Goodwin to Chair SACUBO Audit Committee

Myra Goodwin, controller, was recently appointed by the president of the Southern Association of College and University Business Officers (SACUBO) to chair the association’s Audit Committee for 2021-22. In addition, Goodwin serves as the at-large representative for comprehensive and doctoral institutions on the SACUBO board of directors and is the association’s continuing professional education coordinator and liaison to the National Associations of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA).

 
Sokolov Speaks for International Conference

Dr. Alexandr M. Sokolov, assistant professor of engineering management, presented an invited address for the Industrial Engineering and Operations Management Society International’s first Central American and Caribbean conference, held virtually. His topic was “Using the Sokolov Performance Management System (SPMS)© to Quantify the Uncertainty of any Project’s Performance.” The conference promoted collaboration in the theory and practice of industrial engineering and operations management.
