Dr. Anahita Izadyar, associate professor of chemistry, is lead author of an article published in the Journal of Electroanalytical Chemistry. Co-authors are Dr. Elizabeth E. Hood, Lipscomb Distinguished Professor, Dr. Ilwoo Seok, associate professor of mechanical engineering, and undergraduate students My Ni Van and Kayleigh Amber Rodriguez. In the article, they describe the fabrication of a glucose sensor. Funding was provided by Arkansas Biosciences Institute.

Research by Dr. Scott Anderson, assistant professor of communication studies, has been published in the Howard Journal of Communications. Anderson analyzes President Barack Obama's "Address on the 50th Anniversary of the Selma, Alabama, March" to show that Obama used the African oral element of nommo to locate the civil rights protest within a broader narrative of American exceptionalism. His article is available online.

Congratulations to Jennifer Salo, formerly Liberal Arts and Communication, now University College, whose work in guiding exceptional students toward special opportunities was recognized during the Distinguished Performance Awards ceremony in May. Salo was commended for “Enhancing the Student Experience” through her work as coordinator for competitive fellowships and scholarships. With her assistance, numerous students have received Fulbright grants, Gilman scholarships, internships and other awards.

Best wishes to Barbara Doyle, University College, who concluded her 33-year career in June. Beginning in 1988 as a reading instructor and academic adviser for the Right Start Program (now Transition Studies), she later served as director of assessment services and most recently as director of concurrent enrollment. Among her achievements, Doyle started A-State’s Brother-2-Brother organization and the Arkansas Association for the Assessment of Collegiate Learning.

Congratulations to Dr. Gayle Williams, instructor in English, as she enjoys retirement following her 32 years of faculty service to A-State.  A graduate of the doctoral program in English at Ole Miss, Williams began teaching composition, world literature, and technical writing in 1989. Previously she served as a district librarian for Craighead and Poinsett Counties and as owner of two local businesses.
