Green Presents on Soil Health Principles Green Presents on Soil Health Principles

Dr. Steven Green, professor of soil and water conservation, made a presentation on "Healthy Soils for Sustainable Cotton" at the Arkansas Soil Health Alliance annual meeting for agricultural industry professionals in McGehee. He and Matt Fryer of the UA Division of Agriculture demonstrated various soil health principles and soil sampling techniques used for monitoring. They also discussed beneficial modifications farmers are making to their equipment.

 
Allen and Museum Staff Win Byways Award

Congratulations to Dr. Marti Allen (right), director, Arkansas State University Museum, and staff members Jill Kary, Elisabeth Engel, Valerie Ponder, Judy Lamb and Michelle Friend. They accepted the Cultural Heritage Award from Arkansas Delta Byways (ADB), the official tourism promotion association for 15 counties in Eastern Arkansas, at ADB's annual banquet. The award recognized Allen and the staff for their excellent work developing the museum's rockabilly music exhibit.

Beauchamp, Street and Baker Collaborate in Pilot Program

A collaboration between the Online Writing Center, headed by Dr. Airek Beauchamp, assistant professor of English, A-State Online's Katie Street, and Dr. Timberly Baker, Center for Excellence in Education, is providing embedded writing support through a pilot program. Online Ed.D. graduate students in their first course of the program can access writing supports within their BlackBoard course. This collaboration allows for students to get direct support to improve their writing mechanics, APA style use, and grammar, while leaving the professor able to focus on development of content expertise and writing for the discipline.

 
Suárez Speaks on Women and Girls in Science Suárez Speaks on Women and Girls in Science

Dr. Abril Suárez, professor of physics and mathematics, Campus Queretaro, was an invited speaker at the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, organized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and hosted by Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Hidalgo. Suárez talked about her research and her passion, dark matter and galaxy formation, for the UNESCO initiative to engage women and girls in science.

 
Tribbett Serves as Editor of 'Arkansas Review'

The latest edition of Arkansas Review, under the general editorship of Dr. Marcus Tribbett, assistant professor of English, has been published. It includes several authors' works, including poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction, and a play. This edition of Arkansas Review also introduces an article examining the life and work of musician and Arkansas native Johnny Cash. Arkansas Review features scholarship and creative material pertaining to the Mississippi Delta Region.
