DuBose Appointed to Professional Group's Board

Dr. Cheryl DuBose, associate professor of magnetic resonance imaging and department chair, has been appointed to a four-year term on the board of trustees of the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). With more than 20 years of experience in the field, she has earned ARRT credentials in computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and quality management. Previously she served on ARRT's MRI examination committee, 2009-14.

Fears and Faculty Members Promote Value of Free Press

Dr. Lillie Fears, professor of multimedia journalism production, organized "Arkansas and the Media," a panel discussion taped in the ASU-TV studio. Several faculty were involved in the Arkansas Humanities Council (AHC)-supported project, including Dr. Cherisse Jones-Branch, Vaughn Endowed Professor of History and chair of the AHC board, Dr. Sandra Combs, associate professor of multimedia journalism production, Dr. Hans Hacker, associate professor of political science, and Dr. Will McLean, associate professor of political science and department chair. Panelists discussed the importance of a free press in a democracy.

 
Fowler Elected to Journal's Editorial Board Fowler Elected to Journal's Editorial Board

Dr. Gil Fowler, professor of strategic communication and director of graduate studies in media and communication, has been elected to the editorial board of The Journal of Middle East Media (JMEM). The annual journal, which includes both Arabic and English articles, is the first peer-reviewed journal dedicated exclusively to research on the media and issues involving the media environment in the Middle East.

 
Tetteh's Article Published in Feminist Journal

An article by Dr. Dinah Tetteh, assistant professor of communication studies, has been published in the journal Feminist Media Studies. Using Angelina Jolie's medical announcements in 2013 and 2015 as examples, Tetteh argues that normative views about the ovaries impact visibility of ovarian cancer. The article, titled "Visibility of the Ovaries and Breasts: An Analysis of Jolie's Medical Announcements," is available online.

Salo Examines Wrestling Promotion Practices Salo Examines Wrestling Promotion Practices

A chapter by Dr. Edward Salo, assistant professor of history, has been published in Identity in Professional Wrestling: Essays on Nationality, Race and Gender. In the chapter he wrote, " 'They ain't like us:' Race, Class and Gender in Smoky Mountain Wrestling," Salo examines how the 1990s-era wrestling promotion practices used feminists, African Americans and Yankees as the villains in their storylines.
