Ten Faculty Members Promoted to Rank of Professor

Congratulations to 10 faculty members whose promotions to the rank of professor were approved Friday by the Board of Trustees.  The board acted on recommendations from the Promotion, Retention and Tenure Committee and university administration.  Those promoted to professor and their respective disciplines are:
    Dr. Jennifer Bouldin, environmental biology; Dr. Janelle Collins, English; Dr. Myleea D. Hill, strategic communication; Dr. Shane Hunt, marketing; Dr. Hai Jiang, computer science; Dr. Cherisse Jones-Branch, history; Dr. Tillman Kennon, science education; Dr. Dixie Keyes, mid-level education; Dr. Fabricio Medina-Bolivar, biological sciences; and Dr. Joseph Sartorelli, philosophy.

 
Tenure Awarded to 11 Faculty Members

Eleven faculty members will begin the next academic year with tenure, as recommended through the PRT process. Those attaining tenure and their respective academic disciplines are:
    Nicole Arnell, art; Annette Bednar, clinical laboratory sciences; Dr. Claudia Benavides, sports management; Dr. Amy Buzby, political science; Dr. Maureen Dolan, biological sciences; Bilinda Norman, nursing; Dr. Ilwoo (Josh) Seok, mechanical engineering; Stacey Sloas, physical therapy; Dr. Amanda Wheeler, athletic training; Dr. Melissa Wilkinson, art; and Dr. Guolei (Jason) Zhou, biological sciences.

Promotions to Associate Professor Approved by Board

A total of 11 faculty members were promoted to the academic rank of associate professor, following action Friday by the Board of Trustees during a meeting at the Arkansas State University Mid-South campus.  Those promoted to associate professor and their respective disciplines are:
    Nicole Arnell, art; Dr. Claudia Benavides, sports management; Dr. Amy Buzby, political science; Dr. Karen R. McDaniel, management; Bilinda Norman, nursing; Dr. Ilwoo (Josh) Seok, mechanical engineering; Stacey Sloas, physical therapy; Dr. Daniel Tacke, music; Dr. Amanda Wheeler, athletic training; Dr. Melissa Wilkinson, art; and Dr. Guolei (Jason) Zhou, biological sciences.

For his quarterly report to the Arkansas State University Board of Trustees at its Friday meeting, Chancellor Tim Hudson made comments and presented a three-minute video report highlighting some of the more significant faculty, staff and student achievements during the past three months, as well as other campus developments. In Memoriam: Dr. Dennis Rousey, Professor, History

Colleagues of Dr. Dennis Rousey, professor of history, mourn his death last week. Dr. Rousey, who came to A-State in 1978, served on faculty for 38 years. His teaching specialty was U.S. history. He authored the book “Policing the Southern City: New Orleans, 1805-1889,” published by LSU Press, and numerous articles on his research interests, especially urban life and law enforcement in the 19th century South. Details are in a news release.
