Devereux Touts Undergraduate Research Focus Devereux Touts Undergraduate Research Focus

Emily Devereux, associate director of research development, recently presented at the National Council for University Research Administrators (NCURA) Region III Conference in Charleston, S.C., and at the Council on Undergraduate Research's Conference of Undergraduate Research Program Directors at Norman, Okla. She highlighted A-State's efforts in creating a registered campus organization to actively engage students in expanding and institutionalizing student research in a resource-limited environment.

Simpson is New Director of Fowler Center

Bob Simpson, professor of theatre and department chair, has agreed to take on additional responsibility as director of Fowler Center.  Simpson, who has been serving as interim director, will provide oversight for Fowler Center activities and presentations. To get Fowler Center's upcoming year off to a great start, Simpson and his colleagues in fine arts will present the annual season preview Thursday, July 23, at 5:30 p.m. at the center.

Shawnie Carrier, chief of staff and executive director of the Delta Center for Economic Development, is serving as president of the Arkansas Economic Developers (AED). She participated last week in Walmart's U.S. Manufacturing Summit, which the company conducts annually to encourage companies to relocate or build new operations in Arkansas. She also was recognized recently during Arkansas Business Publishing Group's annual "40 under 40" awards program.

Ponce Completes Online Teaching Preparation

Carolyn Ponce, coordinator of instructional design and course development in the ITTC Faculty Center, completed the Online Learning Consortium's (OLC) year-long online teaching certificate program. The OLC certificate prepares educators to teach and improve online courses using the OLC pillars of quality in online education -- learning effectiveness, scale, faculty and student satisfaction, and access. Ponce's elective focus was in online faculty support, training and quality review.

Agnew Receives Rockefeller Leadership Award Agnew Receives Rockefeller Leadership Award

At the annual meeting of the Arkansas Literacy Councils in Little Rock, Dr. David Agnew, professor of agricultural education, received the 2015 Win Rockefeller Leadership Award for his service in advancing the cause of literacy. A nine-year member of the board for the Literacy League of Craighead, Poinsett and Greene counties, he served as president for three terms. He also provides leadership for the adult education teacher certification program at A-State.
