Spectators injured in incident at stadium

09/10/2012

JONESBORO – Arkansas State University Police Saturday night investigated an accident that resulted in at least six individuals sustaining injuries during the ASU-Memphis football game.  According to the University Police report, four of those people were treated at a local hospital.

UPD Officer Keith Gilliam reported that he was called at approximately 7 p.m. to the south end of the student section on the east side of Liberty Bank Stadium.  An aluminum bench seat had evidently broken at its base where it had been attached to the concrete, causing the spectators who were standing on the seat to fall.

“We always are highly concerned for the welfare of all students and fans who attend football games and other public events at ASU,” commented Dr. Tim Hudson, chancellor.  “We want everyone to enjoy game day and we value their safety.  We hope those involved have a speedy recovery.  Also, we appreciate the first responders, who were close by, for the immediate medical assistance they provided.”

Dr. Hudson also said that university officials are thoroughly investigating the circumstances regarding the accident.
