Shao, Finalist for Chancellor, to Visit Campus May 3-4
JONESBORO – The three finalist candidates to become the next chancellor of Arkansas State University will visit the campus in Jonesboro and formally interview for the position starting this week.
Dr. Alan Shao, dean of the School of Business at The College of Charleston in South Carolina, is the first of the three candidates to visit.
He will be on campus Wednesday and Thursday, May 3-4, for a series of meetings with the 21-member Chancellor Search Advisory Committee and with other faculty, administrators, staff, students and community members. He also will tour the campus and the City of Jonesboro.
A community “meet and greet” for Shao will begin at noon Thursday, May 4, in the Spring River Room of the Reng Student Union, followed immediately by an open forum beginning at 12:30 p.m. in the auditorium. The forum is open to everyone from the campus and the community, and will include a question and answer session. The presentation also will be streamed on the university website, AState.edu/livestream and Facebook/ArkansasState.
Shao has served as dean of the School of Business at The College of Charleston in South Carolina since 2009 and was the Jack Tate Distinguished Professor of Marketing there from 2009-2011. From 1990-2009 he had various administrative and teaching positions at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, including associate dean of graduate and global programs and director of international business programs.
He completed his Ph.D. in marketing at the University of Alabama, and his master of business administration (MBA) and bachelor degree in general business at Old Dominion University. His complete packet of application materials is available on the chancellor search finalists webpage.
Those in attendance at the various sessions will have an opportunity to submit feedback regarding each candidate to the Chancellor Search Advisory Committee. Following the final interview, the committee will meet to discuss the candidates and provide feedback to Dr. Charles L. Welch, president of the ASU System. Welch hopes to name a new chancellor by June 1.
