JONESBORO – Those on the hunt for the latest accounting and farm management information may find what they are seeking on Friday, Oct. 5, along with an actual hunt.

Several timely topics will be covered at a seminar for accounting, financial and farm management professionals, sponsored by Continuing Education and Community Outreach (CECO) at Arkansas State University, according to Dr. Beverly Boals Gilbert, dean.

To top off the long day of work, participants will have a chance to hunt pheasant or shoot skeet at the seminar venue, the newly opened Stan Jones Mallard Lodge near Hoxie.

Congressman Rick Crawford, the featured guest speaker, will make a special presentation at 11 a.m., “An Update on the Farm Bill and Related Issues.”  Crawford, who lives in Jonesboro, is an A-State alumnus.

Other topics and speakers include “Farm Law” by Brandy Brown of Waddell, Cole and Jones, P.A.; “IRS What is Your Business Worth” by Jeremy Watson of Jones and Company, Ltd.; “Drought Concerns for Farmers,” by Randy Chalapecka of Jackson County Cooperative Extension Service; “Succession Planning, Absentee Landowner, Legal And Real Estate Taxes,” by Ted Glaub of Glaub Farm Management; and “Financing Farm Equipment,” by a representative of John Deere Financial.

The day-long schedule is designed especially for accounting professionals, farmers, landowners, and agricultural business operators.   Professional continuing education credits will be available.

The Stan Jones Mallard Lodge is a rustic but elegant retreat near the historic Clover Bend community west of Minturn in Lawrence County.  The developer is Stan Jones, a native of Clover Bend who is a College of Business alumnus and former member of the ASU football team.

Participants will have opportunities to enjoy exploring the park setting that surrounds the lodge, including waterfalls, streams and gardens.
