01/31/2018

JONESBORO – The printmakers in the Department of Art and Design at Arkansas State University have designated the second Saturday of the month as "Open Studio Day" for A-State printmaking alumni, students and the public.

The second Saturday of next month, Feb. 10, will be a "Valentine’s Letterpress Extravaganza," from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in Room 108 of the Fine Arts Center (GPS 2412 Quapaw Way).

Second Saturday events will be scheduled most months, with exceptions for commencement days.

Participants in the upcoming open studio will celebrate the department's acquisition of a Chandler & Price press. This event is open to everyone, especially those who would like to pull a letterpress print.  Admission is free.

"A highlight will be a card that includes baby footprints, so bring the little ones to create a memento," commented Shelley Gipson, associate professor of art.

"Thanks to Bank & Co. in Jonesboro and Jerry Friend for the donation of the Chandler & Price press," added Dr. Temma Balducci, professor of art history and interim department chair.  "It joins the Vandercook press, courtesy of Evan Lindquist, in the A-State Print Lab."

Visitor parking will be available in the lot adjacent to the building. For additional details, one may contact the Department of Art and Design, (870) 972-3050.
