11/05/2013

JONESBORO -- Three representatives from the Bashkir State Pedagogical University in Ufa, Russia, are visiting Arkansas State University this week to collaborate with faculty in the College of Education (College of Education and Behavioral Science, effective Jan. 1).

The guests are Drs. Maxim Mikhaylov, pro-rector for academic affairs; Tatiana Chuykova, department chair of applied psychology; and Raisa Iksanova, head of the International Relations Office.

Their purpose while at A-State is to look at the possibility of establishing joint master's degree programs, student and faculty exchanges, research collaborations, and other creative projects between the two institutions.

They were guests of honor at a reception in the Cooper Alumni Center Monday.

The working relationship between the two universities goes back several years. A collaboration between Bashkir State Pedagogical University (BSPU) and Arkansas State started in 2005 when Dr. Irina Khramtsova, associate professor of psychology at Arkansas State, met Dr. Chuykova at a conference in Grenada, Spain.

The following year during the symposium at the 26th Congress of Applied Psychology, Dr. Chuykova made contact with additional A-State faculty members, Dr. Amy Pearce, associate professor of psychology, and Dr. David Saarnio, professor of psychology.

The collaboration continued in 2010 as Dr. Chuykova was hosted by the Department of Psychology and Counseling during her sabbatical; the following year, Dr. Khramtsova visited BSPU in Ufa, the capital of Bashkir Republic, Russia.

Last May, the A-State College of Education sent two faculty members and four doctoral students to BSPU.
