Museum Sets Event for Black History Month Celebration

JONESBORO – In celebration of Black History Month, Arkansas State University Museum will host a scholarly event comprised of a stimulating lecture, lively conversation and delicious refreshments.

On Tuesday, Feb. 7, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Dr. Cherisse Jones-Branch, professor of history, will present a discussion on “African American Women’s Activism in Rural Arkansas.”

Dr. Jones-Branch is an experienced teacher and well-published author.  Her most recent research project is "Better Living by Their Own Bootstraps: Rural Black Women's Activism in Arkansas, 1913-1965."

A faculty member at A-State since 2003, Jones-Branch completed her master's at the University of Charleston and her Ph.D. at The Ohio State University.

Visitors are encouraged to attend the lecture and join the conversation.  Admission is free.

After the lecture, guests may continue the dialog over foods inspired by African American traditions.

Museum hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays except for Tuesday, when it is open until 7 p.m.  On weekends, hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
