KASU ends spring membership drive on May 1 in excess of $20,000 goal

05/02/2012

Radio station KASU 91.9 FM, the broadcasting service of Arkansas State University, raised more than $20,400 in its spring membership drive, surpassing its $20,000 goal. The spring drive began on Monday, April 23, and concluded on Tuesday, May 1. KASU development director Mark Smith said, “KASU’s listeners continue to show their
appreciation for the station, helping us reach our goals each and every time we ask. We get great feedback during our drives, with people calling and tell us how much they enjoy the news, information, discussion, entertainment, and unique music we offer. And we always get interesting stories from listeners who don’t even live in our region, like the truck driver passing through and enjoying KASU who called to make a pledge, or the guy from New Orleans who made a pledge, listening to us while turkey hunting in the southern Missouri woods. For all of us on the KASU staff, it’s great to know that the work we do is valued by those who hear it!” KASU broadcasts at 91.9 FM 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

KASU listeners become members by making financial contributions to the non-commercial educational station. The 100,000-watt FM station holds two membership drives each year, one in the fall and another in the spring. Membership funds are used to pay for programming aired by KASU. The amount of funds raised and the number of members retained and added during the membership drives also demonstrate a level of local support needed for the station to qualify for service grants from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Those grants also help pay for programming and supplement the operating expenses of the station. KASU is Arkansas’ oldest non-commercial public radio station, operating since 1957. KASU has been an NPR member station since 1971. In addition to locally-produced news and music programs, the station pays to receive programming from NPR, American Public Media, and other sources. KASU accepts membership contributions any time.
