Gone In 60 Seconds Business Idea Pitch Contest Is Slated For Thursday, April 18

04/11/2013

JONESBORO, Ark. — “Gone in 60 Seconds” is usually associated with movies about fast cars.  That’s certainly not the case with the Business Idea Pitch Contest where innovative ideas can get started on the road to becoming viable businesses . . . all in 60 seconds.

The free contest (also referred to as “G60”) is set for Thursday, April 18, at Brickhouse Grill, 218 S. Main, Downtown Jonesboro. The event, hosted by radio personality and Jonesboro Radio Group president, Trey Stafford, is from 6-8 p.m. Seating is limited.

As of today, more than 20 competitors have signed in, and more than 150 people have registered to attend and vote to determine the winners.

“We are very excited to be a part of this competition,” said Brian Rogers, director of Catalyst, the technology incubation program under the Delta Center for Economic Development at ASU. “As aspiring entrepreneurs, competitors will have the chance to practice proposing business ideas to potential investors, customers, and partners. The broader purpose of this event is to promote innovative entrepreneurship and start to build an identifiable community of those with a stake in innovative entrepreneurship. If you are interested in starting or growing your own business and connecting with resources to help you do that, this event is required. The bottom line is that we are working to create more competitive job opportunities.”

“The format of the contest is analogous to the reality TV show ‘Shark Tank,’” continued Rogers. “Contestants have no more than 60 seconds to present a business idea. The audience will vote to determine the winners. Hundreds of people have turned out for G60 in Conway, Fort Smith, and Fayetteville. We expect the same here 18-April.”

The event is presented by ASU’s Delta Center for Economic Development and Innovate Arkansas, a program of the Arkansas Economic Development Commission and Winrock International, which creates better employment opportunities by helping transform inventions and technology-driven ideas.

Cash prizes will be awarded for first (at least $1,000), second, and third places. Additionally, door prizes will be awarded and competitors will have a chance to network with “like-minded” professionals.
