Place of birth:
Jonesboro, Arkansas
Why did you choose A-State?
I am proud to say that I am a graduate of Arkansas State University. So being able to work here, be close to my family, and give back to another generation of students as those before me did, well that was an easy choice!
What makes a good professor?
I believe good professors understand their students. They don’t just “lecture” them. They teach them about the subject matter, as well as life.
Who was your favorite teacher (and why)?
Mr. Roger Sutterfield. First of all, he taught math and I have always be a sucker for math. He taught my math class 3 of my 6 years at Tuckerman Jr/High School. Not only did he share my love of math, we had a blast in class every day! He always showed us how to work problems multiple ways, the true meaning of the problem at hand (not just the solution), and how to think logically and determine if the solution was feasible.
What makes for a good student?
Good students are those students who work hard. Education does not necessarily come easy to them, but they put forth the required effort. In addition to effort they comprehend the subject. Not only do they know the material, they understand it and can apply it to other subject areas.
Four people I’d take to coffee . . .
Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Princess Diana, Marilyn Monroe, & Albert Einstein
What’s the value of a university education?
I feel the value of a university education extends far beyond the job opportunities that are available after graduation. Students make life-long friendships and have the opportunity to network with professors and other students who will one day work in the same field as them. These networking opportunities can make a huge difference in the students’ futures.
Your philosophy on education in seven words:
Privilege that provides brighter futures for all
If you could teach another field, which one and why?

be yourself. Don’t let others dictate who you are.
What is the one thing I’ve learned I’d tell my college self . . .
I was very studious and serious in college so I would tell myself to just have fun! It is the last few years that you have left before you are an adult with all the adult responsibilities that life brings.
My passion is . . .
helping my family, students, and community members have a better life. No one is dealt a perfect hand in life, but together we can make it a little happier.
My pet peeve is . . .

It’s a tie between sushi & a beef chimichanga.
A perfect day is . . .
sleeping in (past 7:00) and spending time with my daughter and husband with no real responsibilities for the day.
