Let’s get to know Eric Scudamore, who we imagine this weekend is shredding Craighead Forest’s mountain bike trails to Plowed by Sponge.

I’ll be marrying my best friend, and HPESS colleague Veronika on March 17th. We have a 7 year old lab mix named Cutler, that we affectionately call "our 49 year old stay at home son".
Why did you choose A-State?
The community support system is one of a kind- “Wolves Up” is everywhere around town. Friendly faculty, students and administration and a very supportive “work family” in the HPESS Department. I’m loving it here.

Also mountain biking.
What makes a good professor?
A good professor invests in his/her students’ development in and out of the classroom – expecting nothing in return. It’s all about the students.
What music is playing in your car?
Alternative rock – always.
Who was your favorite teacher (and why)?
Dr. Eric O’Neal and Dr. Matt Green at the University of North Alabama were my favorite professors. They were great teachers, but also great people who inspired me to become a professor.
What makes for a good student?
Eagerness to learn and effort.
If you could teach another field, which one and why?
Marine biology. I have always been fascinated by marine life and the mysteries of the ocean.
What is the one thing you wish you could teach everyone about your field?
I would teach them about the wide range of work we do in this field. Implications from our work range from increasing military soldier safety and effectiveness, to improving and/or preventing chronic diseases like diabetes, obesity, and spinal cord injuries.
What are you working on right now?
I just finished my dissertation and a few other studies with colleagues that involve functional movement screening and musculoskeletal injury, as well as gait characteristics and economy of soldiers while wearing standard military training loads.
My favorite motion picture is...
Too many to pick just one.
The television series I must TiVo...
If I could travel anywhere it would be...

The best advice I ever received was...
“Figure it out.”
My pro sports team is...
New York Giants and Nashville Predators
My favorite meal is...
A perfect day is...
Any cool fall day in the wilderness.
What I like about Jonesboro is...
The tight knit, all-in attitude of the community. Great people here in Jonesboro.
Cats or dogs?
E-book or hardback?
Beach or mountains?
Dinner or supper?
The one thing I’d take to a desert island (and a boat is not an answer)...
a helicopter of course.
