07/22/2016

JONESBORO – Childhood Services at Arkansas State University will host the 46th annual Early Childhood Education Conference, "Why We Do the Things We Do," Monday through Wednesday, Aug. 8-10, at Fowler Center and the Convocation Center.

The conference is sponsored by Childhood Services and the Division of Child Care and Early Childhood Education.

"Our conference is an Arkansas early childhood tradition," according to Jo Ann Nalley, director of Childhood Services at A-State.  "Educators are welcome to participate in informative, relevant, and timely interest sessions and hear nationally known keynote speakers in a fun, fast-paced conference format."

The keynote at Tuesday's general session this year will be Beth Marshall, director of early childhood at the HighScope Educational Research Foundation in Ypsilanti, Mich.  She has written and developed training materials for HighScope on a range of topics, including adult learning, art with young children, adult-child interactions, scaffolding children's math learning, and the impact of brain research on early childhood practices.

Among her many publications, she is author of the book "HighScope Step by Step: Lesson Plans for the First 30 Days" and co-author of "Small-Group Times to Scaffold Early Learning."  Marshall has conducted training projects throughout the United States and internationally.

Sessions are suited for all child care providers.  Traveling Arkansas' Professional Pathways (TAPP) professional development hours and continuing education units (CEU) will be available.  Three-day registration is $110, available through Aug. 1.
