04/19/2017

JONESBORO – The Chamber Singers and Concert Choir at Arkansas State University will present their spring performance on Monday, April 24, at 7:30 p.m. in Fowler Center’s Riceland Hall.

The groups are under the direction of Dr. Dale Miller, with Brian Henkelmann as collaborative pianist and organist.

The Chamber Singers will perform first, beginning with movements from "Zigeunerlieder" by Johannes Brahms.  They will follow that with movements one and five from Lauridsen’s "Les Chansons des Roses."

In addition, many student conductors will be directing pieces. Victoria Pulliam will direct “Chorale” from Cantata 140 by J.S. Bach, Victoria Dryer will direct “Ave Verum Corpus” by Mozart, Matt Crociata will direct “Sing We and Chant It” by Thomas Morley, and Emily Newell will conduct “O occhi manza mia” by di Lasso.  They will close their portion of the program with “In These Delightful, Pleasant Groves” by Henry Purcell.

Concert Choir will then take the stage and begin with Paul Fetler’s “Sing Unto God.”  They will follow up with “Abendlied” by Brahms and directed by Matt Crociata.  The choir will also sing “The Cloths of Heaven” by Stroope and “Of Crows and Clusters” by Norman Dello Joio.

Student conductor Hal Niederbrach will direct Lauridsen’s “Sure on This Shining Night,” and then Miller will come back and direct “Everyone Sang,” which Henkelmann composed.  The group will close with “Abide With Me” and “Ev’ry Time I Feel the Spirit,” both by Moses Hogan.

Admission is $5 per person, or free to A-State students with their ID.
