ASU SBTDC, Black River Technical College Corporate and Community Education Department to offer free website seminar

04/22/2013

JONESBORO, Ark. — The Arkansas State University Small Business and Technology Development Center (SBTDC) and Black River Technical College Corporate and Community Education Department in Pocahontas will offer a free workshop, “Website in Day” in Pocahontas on April 30 for local small business owners and their employees.

“Website in a Day” will be held at the Black River Technical College Continuing Education Building on College Drive in Pocahontas, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

The workshop is one of 32 free online marketing training events for entrepreneurs that ASBTDC is offering around the state this year through a partnership with Connect Arkansas, a project of Arkansas Capital Corporation.

“To compete in their local markets as well as in the global economy, Arkansas businesses need to embrace the Internet. We are delighted to work with Connect Arkansas to strengthen small businesses by sharing tools, skills and knowledge they can use to reach more customers online and increase sales,” said Janet Roderick, ASBTDC state director.

Approximately 97 percent of Internet users look online for local services – from restaurants to hardware stores, plumbers to dentists – yet at least half of all small businesses do not have websites.

“Website in a Day” will teach business owners how to build effective, easy-to-maintain websites with free online tools. The hands-on training will guide participants step-by-step through creating an attractive, functional, five-page website using ASU SBTDC-provided laptops.

The training is free, but space is limited to 15 attendees, and pre-registration is required.  Register online at asbtdc.org/training or by calling the ASU SBTDC at (870) 972-3517 or e-mail registration asusbtdc@astate.edu.  Reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities will be made if requested in advance. Contact Lois Travis at 319 University Loop West or (870) 972-3517.

The ASU Small Business and Technology Development Center is funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration through a partnership with the University of Arkansas-Little Rock College of Business and other institutions of higher education.
