12/05/2016

JONESBORO — High school students from across Arkansas will test their communication skills and talents in the 79th Communication Day, Saturday, March 4, 2017, at Arkansas State University. With the addition of new competitions, this edition of Communication Day promises to be the best yet and offers students more opportunities to win awards.

Departments of Media and Communication in the College of Liberal Arts and Communication are organizing the event, which will be held in the Education and Communication Building, 330 University Loop Circle.

“The Department of Media at Arkansas State University is honored to co-host an event that has a long history of bringing students to our campus to showcase their work in all areas of media and communication,” said Media Department Chair Dr. Osabuohien Amienyi. “Communication Day is widely recognized statewide and in this region for its excellence.”

The 79th Communication Day will feature more than 20 competitions in broadcast and print journalism, public relations, advertising, social media, narrative filmmaking, photojournalism, sports, debate, extemporaneous speaking and more.  New competition includes social media, round-table debates and original oratory.

Students from any high school in Arkansas can compete free of charge for first, second, third and honorable mention prizes. The school accumulating the highest number of points for the day will receive the sweepstakes plaque. All prizes will be presented at 2:30 p.m. the day of the competition.

Students can participate in two types of competitions: (a) Pre-Competition: Students submit the work they completed between March 15, 2016–Feb. 24, 2017, dates by 5 p.m. Feb. 24, 2017, and (b) On-Site Competition: Students compete at the Education and Communication building on March 4, 2017. The check-in time is 8 a.m., and the competition begins at 9 a.m.

Registration forms, competition description and rules, and other important submission details are available at AState.edu/CommunicationDay.
