Political Science and Economics Major Elizabeth England Awarded PPIA Fellowship

JONESBORO – Elizabeth (Lizzie) England, a political science and economics major at Arkansas State University, has been awarded the Public Policy and International Affairs (PPIA) Fellowship.England will spend her summer studying at Carnegie Mellon University’s Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy.“I am so very grateful for this opportunity. This experience will forever change my college trajectory, and I am so thankful for the professors and advisers who have supported me along the way,” said England.PPIA is a competitive fellowship that provides full funding for those seeking careers in public policy to study at top policy schools in the United States.“I look forward to attending this program at Carnegie Mellon to learn more about data analytics

and its relation to public policy,” said England.An Honors College student, she will join a cohort from across the country that will focus on policy analysis, economics, and international affairs with an emphasis on using data analytics to inform public policy.At A-State, England is involved in the Student Government Association, Model United Nations, A-State Food Pantry, Women’s Leadership Center, and Volunteer A-State, and is a former Pack Leader.“My plans after graduation are to complete my master’s degree in political economy or public policy. I hope to one day serve with a government agency or nongovernmental organization as a political consultant or policy analyst to help lessen economic insecurity,” said England.Currently, she is completing a semester-long internship with the Potomac Advocates in Washington, D.C.England is the daughter of Shannon and Lori England of Piedmont, Mo.
