'Local Color' Featured in Exhibition at Bradbury Art Museum

01/19/2017

JONESBORO – The work of four local artists will be featured in an exhibition that opens Thursday, Jan. 26, at Bradbury Art Museum in the Fowler Center at Arkansas State University.

The opening reception for "Local Color" coincides with the opening of the 2017 Delta National Small Prints Exhibition and "NurtureNature."  Admission is free and the public is welcome.

The idea for a show that celebrates talented, working artists in the local area originated while the current exhibition schedule was being planned.

"Knowing that it would not be possible to include all the deserving local artists in one exhibition, and that it would be more impactful to present fewer artists with more work, the decision was made to select four individuals," stated Les Christensen, director of Bradbury Art Museum.

The four artists whose works were selected for the exhibition are Matt E. Ball, Mihaela Savu, Beth Snodgrass and Nanci Zimmer.

"The thought was to present a show with local art as the theme.  Our intent was to provide something more meaningful by offering each artist enough space to better inform us of their artistic vision," Christensen explained.

"I hope that 'Local Color' is as rewarding for our audience as the process has been for us.  Our goal was to highlight local artwork, which in turn is a great reminder of the active artistic community in which we live," she added.

BAM hours are noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, and by appointment.  The exhibition and the reception are admission-free and open to the public.  For additional information please contact the museum at (870) 972-2567.
