Dr. Amanda Carpenter (left), assistant professor of public health, and Dr. Cameron Wimpy (right), associate professor of political science and department chair, presented at the American Public Health Association annual meeting in Atlanta. In this study, they examined the impact of rurality on nutrition outcomes, including access to healthy foods, food environments and food insecurity. They found that rurality significantly impacted these outcomes, especially in the more rural communities.

Dr. Edward Salo, associate professor of history, presented the paper, “Changing Centuries of Grand Strategy: Great Britain’s Response to Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine and the Opportunity for Reintegration into Europe” at the EU Academy Conference on European security. He examined how the British government after Brexit responded to restore a leadership role in Europe. Salo also wrote an article for The National Interest on the war’s anticipated result in China.

Dr. Stacy Dewald, assistant professor of criminology, made a presentation to the American Society of Criminology conference on problem-solving court personnel's perspectives on incentives, sanctions and therapeutic adjustments, along with strategies for fostering collaborative researcher and law enforcement partnerships. She also presented her research on police responses to mental health-related crises at the Southwestern Association of Criminal Justice annual meeting.

Dustin Sullivan (left) and Galen Perkins (right), instructors in creative media production, led students in their program to earn both first and second place for their live video productions in the College Broadcasters Inc.'s National Student Production Awards. The winning show, “You, Me, and the Community,” featured an interview with the mayor of Jonesboro, while the second-place show was “A-State Connections.”

Dr. Khem Aryal, associate professor of English, was the invited keynote speaker for the annual conference of the Arkansas Philological Association in Little Rock. In his address, titled "In-Betweeners: The Making of Immigrant Stories," Aryal discussed South Asian anglophone writing and immigrant experiences. He also gave a reading from his recently released short story collection, The In-Betweeners, which provides a deeply human perspective on the varied experiences of Nepalese immigrants.
