Horowitz’s Book Examines Latin American Studies

A book authored by Dr. Gabriel Horowitz, associate professor of Spanish, has just been published by Bucknell University Press. In the new volume, Nature Fantasies: Decolonization and Biopolitics in Latin America, Horowitz examines the works of select 19th and 20th century Latin American writers through the lens of contemporary theoretical debates about nature, post coloniality and national identity. Balducci’s Chapter on Matisse is Published Balducci’s Chapter on Matisse is Published

A chapter on painter Henri Matisse by Dr. Temma Balducci, professor of art history, and department chair, is included in the volume Aesthetic Orders of Dwelling, published by Transcript. The chapter, titled “Domesticity, Creativity, and the Female Body: Matisse’s Red Studio,” focuses on his famous 1911 painting. The unusual rendering of the artist’s studio is Matisse’s culminating work on the issue of gender and creativity. Details are online.

 
Johnson-Leslie, Bowser and Leslie are Chapter Co-Authors

Three faculty members are co-authors of a book chapter published by IGI Global. They are Dr. Natalie Johnson-Leslie, professor of secondary education; Dr. Audrey Bowser, associate professor of curriculum and instruction; and Dr. H. Steve Leslie, assistant professor of business communication. Former faculty member Dr. Kimberley Davis is the other co-author. The chapter explores nine Black women’s formal and informal leadership styles. Constructive disruptions by these nine Black women were based on their strong principles, values and purpose as leaders in the academy. Details are online.

 
Jones is Latest PROPS Award Recipient Jones is Latest PROPS Award Recipient

Congratulations to Uriella Jones, recipient of the most recent PROPS (Proudly Recognizing Our Pack Staff) award. She is an admissions analyst for A-State Online, and previously worked in the College of Nursing and Health Professions. Her nominator noted Jones’ knowledge, her willingness to help in a variety of situations, and her reliability. The PROPS subcommittee of Staff Senate interviewed Jones about her campus recognition.

 
Catti Directs Chemistry Students at Querétaro

Research by students of Dr. Federica Catti, assistant professor of science and math, Campus Querétaro, will be presented by senior chemistry major Natalia Reyes at the Gulf Coast Undergraduate Research Symposium in Houston. Other team members are Edna Garcia, Claudio Haro, Luz Gonzalez and Daniel Gonzalez. They aim to establish a procedure to synthesize a small library of potentially active DNA methyltransferase inhibitors to better understand the DNA methylation process on cancer proliferation.
