Five veteran faculty members have been promoted to professor, following confirmation by the ASU System Board of Trustees at its meeting Thursday. Congratulations to Dr. Annette Hux, educational leadership; Dr. Natalie Johnson-Leslie, secondary education; Dr. Susan Whiteland, art education; Dr. Stacy Walz, clinical laboratory sciences; and Dr. Than Boves, wildlife ecology. Eighteen individuals were promoted to associate professor, and 20 attained tenure. Details are in the news release.

Dr. Melanie Wicinski, assistant vice chancellor for accreditation and assessment, has been selected for the HERS (Higher Education Resource Services) Leadership Institute this month at Bridgewater State. Wicinski is among 60 U.S. higher education leaders participating in the program, which was founded to help further develop leadership traits of dynamic women who can apply their experience and positively contribute to their institution’s success.

Dr. Ibrahim Duyar, professor of educational leadership, wrote an article examining educational leaders’ role in leading employee work attitudes in the face of increased organizational stressors. He co-authored a second article, which explores direct and indirect influences of organizational support, climate for personal initiative, and psychological safety on teachers’ job satisfaction. Also, a book chapter Duyar co-authored studied key stakeholders’ perceptions of the internationalization of higher education in the United Arab Emirates.

Dr. María Montserrat Juárez, director, Sciences and Mathematics, Campus Querétaro, was selected as an "Inspiring Woman" by the state of Querétaro. She will be featured in the “Mujeres que inspiran” (Inspiring Women) collection that recognizes outstanding women of achievement. Juárez was selected because of her impact as a young researcher, her contributions as a science communicator, and her leadership in encouraging young women to pursue STEM careers.

Dr. Larry Morton, associate professor of social work, was among the six retiring educators recognized during Faculty Honors Convocation. His 11-year career at A-State gave him an opportunity to enrich the classroom presentations with his experiences from nearly 20 years of professional practice in the field, largely with vulnerable populations. Morton taught a variety of foundation courses in the Master of Social Work degree program.
